The West End Resource Centre (WERC) takes pride in overseeing a network of 78 community garden plots strategically spread across four locations in the Daniel McIntyre/Saint Matthews areas.
Our mission is to provide these plots to community members and ensure essential utilities like water are readily available at each site.
Maintaining these vibrant community gardens is made possible by our dedicated summer team led by the Greening Supervisor and three hardworking apprentices. Their responsibilities include water availability, garbage collection, weed management, and other site-specific tasks.
Let's take a closer look at our community gardens:
Orioles Community Garden: Located at Orioles Park on St. Matthews Avenue and Burnell Street, it features 40 raised garden boxes and on-site water facilities.
Lipton Community Garden: Situated at Lipton Tot Lot on 878 Lipton Street near Yarwood Avenue, it has 11 raised garden boxes and on-site water facilities.
Winnipeg Central Mosque Community Garden: Behind the mosque at 715 Ellice Avenue, it houses 12 raised beds and on-site water facilities.
Jacob Penner Park Community Garden: Found within Jacob Penner Park at 794 Victor Street, between Wellington and Notre Dame Avenues, it boasts 15 raised garden boxes and an on-site water facility.
Each of these gardens showcases the spirit of community and shared responsibility, enhancing the beauty of urban green spaces. At WERC, we are committed to cultivating a greener, healthier, and more vibrant community.
